What Recruitment and Search Firm Owners Can Learn From Prince

So…

You probably heard the news….

Prince passed away yesterday….

But he aint the only one…

You may have noticed that this year celebrities are passing away left, right and centre…

We had David Bowie in January…

Followed by Alan Rickman, Eagles frontman Glenn Frey and Sir Terry Wogan….

In February, Kill a Mockingbird author Harper Lee died at 89, followed by Maurice White from Earth, Wind & Fire…

And plenty more since then…

Paul Daniels, Ronnie Corbett, Victoria Wood, David Gest to name a few…

And now, Prince…

And its only April!

But this is more than just a series of unfortunate coincidences…. There’s actually more to it that…

This will continue!

More of your favourite celebrities and icons will die…

And each year it will seem like more than the last…

Before we get too frightened… It’s not that the death rate is increasing….

Its’ TVs fault!

When you think about it…. The TV, as a household item, became popular in the 1950s, a decade which also saw the birth of teenage popular culture, it makes sense that before this time there weren’t as many stars/celebrities when compared to post this time…

Hence why there are seemingly so many dying now!

However, in reality we are just witnessing the first generation of superstars saying their final goodbyes, and sadly they’ll be lots more to come…

Before you know it we’ll start seeing the latest generation of ‘reality stars’ like Kim Kardashian start dying… but by then hopefully we will have come to our senses and no one will care…

Anyway….

The reason I bring this up is…

Prince is without a doubt one of the most successful artists of ALL time…

He sold over 100 million records worldwide, won seven Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award….

He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the first year of his eligibility…

Rolling Stone ranked him at number 27 on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time…

It’s fair to say he will always be remembered as one of the greats…

But he wasn’t so successful solely because of his talent…

Sure that played its part… But there are plenty of talented musicians who will be quickly forgotten…

But Prince made himself almost impossible to forget…

He was extremely controversial and completely went against the industry norms!

He didn’t want to be just the average ‘pop star’… Average pop stars get forgotten…

Just like the average Recruitment or Search Firms!

And I’ve mentioned this plenty of times before…. But if you’re operating your business the same way the average Recruitment or Search Firm does, you’re easy to forget!
