As a teenage boy growing up…. One of the many things that fascinated me about life, was ‘sex’.
I wanted to learn all there was to know about it…
But asking your parents, or a mature adult about things like that was embarrassing…
So I turned to the more experienced members of my peer group for their insights…
There’s nothing wrong with learning from other people more experienced than you…
The problem was, we were all as inexperienced as each other…
This may surprise you… But teenage boys aren’t always truthful when it comes to their sexual experiences…
No one really had the answers… And so they just made stuff up!
One of the many myths that circled the playground about sex was that if you did it standing up, you couldn’t get a girl pregnant…
I’m not sure who or where that myth came from… But it’s a myth me and many of my peers believed as fact for far too long. Simply because we didn’t know any better!
I eventually learned the truth without any major consequences…
But some of my peers weren’t so lucky and had to find out the hard way….
Thinking back… It seems ridiculous to think I even thought that myth was true for a minute… But you don’t know what you don’t know!
It’s a bit like Recruitment and Search Firm Owners buying into the myths that surround this industry…
Here’s a few I’ve heard recently…
“The only way to increase your profits is to get more clients”
“It’s impossible to raise your prices without losing business”
“(INSERT ROUTE TO MARKET) doesn’t work in this industry!”
“You MUST be using (INSERT ROUTE TO MARKET) to grow your business”
“Cold Calling, Networking and Referrals are the ONLY ways to win business”
I could go on….
Again, I’m not sure who or where these myth comes from… But they’re all myths that many Recruitment and Search Firm Owners believe to be true simply because they don’t know any better…
… Believing any one of these, is no better than believing the myths about sex in the playground…
